Certified vs. Compatible: What Our Product Badges Mean

Video conferencing manufacturers use many different labels to describe how their products work with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, RingCentral and other meeting platforms. Unfortunately, terms such as certified, compatible, designed for and works with are often presented without explaining the differences.

VideoConferenceGear.com has created a standardized platform badge system to make these distinctions easier to understand. Our badges use a consistent design across manufacturers, but the claims behind them are based on documentation for the specific product or configuration.

Certified and Compatible Are Not the Same

The most important distinction is whether a product is officially certified or simply compatible with a meeting platform.

Certified

A Certified badge means we found reliable documentation showing that the specific product or system configuration has been certified for the listed platform.

Depending on the platform, certification may include testing for areas such as:

• Audio and video performance

• Platform controls and meeting features

• System reliability

• User experience

• Required software or firmware

• Security or device-management capabilities

We do not assign a Certified badge simply because a product listing mentions Microsoft Teams, Zoom or another platform. The certification must apply to the exact product or documented configuration.

Compatible

A Compatible badge means the manufacturer documents that the product works with the listed meeting platform, but official platform certification has not been established.

Compatible products can still be excellent choices. Certification may not be necessary for every camera, microphone, speakerphone or BYOD room. The badge simply tells you which type of claim has been verified.

When certification is verified, we display the Certified badge instead of showing both Certified and Compatible badges for the same platform.

Why a Product May Have Multiple Badges

Many modern conferencing products support more than one platform or operating method. For example, a product might be:

• Certified for Microsoft Teams

• Certified for Zoom

• Built on Microsoft MDEP

• Compatible with BYOD conferencing

Each badge represents a separate capability or verified claim. We only display combinations supported by documentation for that product.

Why We Standardized the Designs

Badge styles vary widely between manufacturers. The same certification may be presented differently by Logitech, Yealink, AVer, Jabra, Poly, Neat and other brands.

Using a consistent VideoConferenceGear.com badge design makes it easier to compare products across manufacturers. The visual design is standardized, while the underlying certification or compatibility claim remains specific to the product.

How We Verify Badge Claims

During our product research and refresh process, we review available information from sources such as:

• Official platform certification directories

• Manufacturer product pages

• Product documentation and datasheets

• Published configuration and firmware requirements

We also distinguish between the exact product, a product family and a complete room configuration. A certification for one model or system bundle is not automatically applied to every related product.

Certification status and platform requirements can change over time. We review these claims as product information is updated and avoid assigning a badge when the available evidence is not clear.
